Part of owning a home means maintaining things well so disasters don’t happen. It might be one of those things that’s out of sight and out of mind, but no home owner should ever forget about their sewer system. When a sewer system fails, the results can be disgusting and actually dangerous — raw sewage is not something anyone wants around. Here are a few things you can do to make sure an all out sewer system failure doesn’t happen.
1. Treat your sewer nicely.
One of the best things you can do for your sewer is treat it nicely. This means not flushing things down the toilet that should rather go in the trash and not dumping grease or other foodstuffs down the drain. Make sure that you buy sewer friendly toilet paper and ensure that no one in the house is flushing towels or other nonsense down the toilet.
2. Get the pipes cleaned.
Another preventative measure you can take to help prolong the life of your sewer is to opt for sewer line cleaning. This is going to help keep your pipes cleaner for longer and keep build up from forming inside which could lead to a clog. Clogs can lead to back up and even burst a pipe in the long run. If you start noticing standing water or slow drains it might be time for a cleaning.
3. Opt for sewer line repairs when needed.
If you suspect for any reason that your pipes might be damaged in any way, get them repaired. A super easy way to do this is to get trenchless pipe repair, since it doesn’t require a huge trench to be dug. Even if it’s a small section of pipe, getting trenchless pipe repair before a back up happens is a goo measure to take.
