If you’re building or remodeling a bathroom, you’re probably overwhelmed by picking out tile and other materials. But the three most important elements of the bathroom are the major appliances, and these anchor both the functionality and the appearance of the room. Here are some tips on how to pick them out:
- Bathroom Vanities and Sinks
Bathroom vanities and sinks come in many styles to meet your needs and aesthetic taste. Bathroom sink cabinets can be extremely important if you use many toiletries and products, and are a must if you want to store extra toilet paper and linens conveniently in the bathroom. If this is the case, then a traditional countertop with undermount sinks is probably the best option. If you want to add a more dramatic flair, you could opt for vessel sinks, which sit on top of countertops like old-fashioned washbowls and are often made of beautiful materials. If you’re decorating a guest bath or powder room that needs less storage, you might consider a beautiful pedestal sink instead.
- Toilets
No one likes to talk about them, but toilets are the central pieces of the bathroom. The best rated toilets are both environmentally friendly and effective; modern toilets often offer low-flow options with dual flush capabilities, allowing less water to be used when less waste needs to be removed. Some low-flow toilets are also pressure-assisted, which ensures that the toilet bowl is completely cleaned with every flush. Toilets can also be selected for their beauty, with unique base shapes or decorative detailing.
- Showers or Bathtubs
Showers are a popular choice in smaller bathrooms, but there are many types of shower stalls to fit any style of bathroom. Simple square stalls can be squeezed into almost any space, but a large executive glass shower stall, complete with multiple showerheads and a seating bench, is often considered to be more luxurious than a bathtub. Bathtubs, however, should still be installed in any bathroom that is likely to be used by families with children. Corner bathtubs make this possible even in small spaces, but can also be expanded into comfortable jetted Jacuzzi tubs that can accommodate one or even two adults.
