Though the ice, snow, and wind chill might keep unsavory characters away, there are still those out there who are willing to brave the cold if it means a shot at your belongings. Here are a few ways you can improve your home protection during the winter.
Put Up a Fence.
One of the best and most obvious ways to enhance your home protection is to put up a good fence. Though both wooden fences and metal fences work well, wood fences are often the more popular choice. Chain link fences are quite scalable, and wrought iron fences can be quite expensive. Wooden fences, on the other hand, are the best of both worlds, offering quality home protection at a more affordable cost.
Get a Real or Dummy Security System.
Burglars hate alarms. In fact, homes that lack a security system are about 300% more likely to be broken into, which is why you need a home protection system. Unfortunately for many, they can’t afford security companies’ monthly fees, but luckily, they might not have to. Dummy home protection system stickers are available online for cheap, and though they don’t offer the protection of a real security company, they can still act like gargoyles, warding off potential burglars.
Don’t Announce Your Vacation on Social Media.
Although it might be logical to use social media to make a broad announcement to your friends and family that you’ll be away on vacation, it’s best not to. Crooks pay attention to social networks, and if they see that you’re away, and know where you live, they may be your house a special visit and walk away with some of your possessions. Instead, tell people via email if you have to, and save your Facebook statuses for afterwards.
Though you might not think the winter is a big time for burglaries, things can still happen, and you need to stay protected. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, after all.
