Wooden fences, vinyl fences, chain link fences, wrought iron fences, you name it. There are a myriad of different building materials homeowners can use to build outdoor fences. Some, however, are less conventional than others.
Here are a few of the weirdest outdoor fences out there.
The Junk Fence.
One of the weirdest outdoor fences in Texas can be found in Austin. Using a framework of semi-thick logs, the junk fence also has old bikes, discarded wooden beams, hubcaps, nets, and even entire chairs built right into it. It might not be the most aesthetically pleasing thing, but at least it’s pretty green considering how it’s built out of recycled parts.
The License Plate Fence.
In Missouri, there’s a fence made with old license plates collected from around the country. Although some are rusted beyond recognition, looking more like bark bricks than old license plates, others are in great condition and still have bright, vivid colors. All in all, the fence is a visually interesting, folk art mural that also serves a purpose — to secure the perimeter, and look great doing it.
The Bra Fence.
Most outdoor fences are made out of a sturdy material, but in Cardona, New Zealand, there’s a long, wire fence that’s covered in bras. What’s most interesting about the bra fence, though, is how it came to be. In 1999, four bras were inexplicably left hanging on the fence’s wires. In one year’s time, some 200 more bras had been added. Though the bra fence is in the middle of nowhere, it quickly became a tourist attraction, because, hey, who wouldn’t want to see something as weird as that?
If there’s one thing these outdoor fences show, it’s that there is no limit to human ingenuity. Who said you only had to make fences out of wood or metal? You can use junk, license plates, or even underwear!
