When you own a home, it seems like there are always little things you need to fix. But how often are you including regular HVAC repairs in those plans? For most people, they don’t think about HVAC repairs until their system is already broken. But if you did regular maintenance on these systems, you could prevent the more costly repairs down the road.

Keep up on air conditioner repairs.

It may seem counterproductive, because you have to spend money, but the money that you spend on AC repair will save you money in the long run. If you keep up on repairs as little things come up, you won’t let them keep snowballing until you have an issue where you need to replace the entire system. Bigger issues can cost you hundreds if not thousands of dollars, so preventative measures are very helpful. The average lifespan of a central air conditioner is around 15-20 years, but not using this tip can drastically cut down that number.

Also, keep up on home furnace repairs.

This is along the same lines as the AC repair, but with the added mention of a filter. If you don’t replace your filter once every few months, you may have dust and other debris flying through your vents. This debris could be the cause of a fire- in 2010 there were over 7,400 fires. Don’t add to this statistic when it is so easily prevented.

Don’t forget generators.

Because you don’t use your generator as frequently, you may let home generator repair fall to the bottom of your priorities. But what happens when you need it and it doesn’t work? You don’t want to wait until there’s an emergency to find out your generator is broken.

Do you already follow these tips, or will you be starting them now? Did we miss anything?
