Time to Clear the Air: 4 Simple Things You can do to Improve Your Home’s Air Quality

air conditioning serviceIt’s not quite allergy season yet, but that doesn’t mean the air quality inside of your home is perfect. In fact, it might be causing you more problems than you think. If you find yourself sneezing and sniffling more than usual, you could be suffering the effects of poor air quality.

Whether you’re concerned about your air conditioning services or you notice an excess of dust in your home, there are simple steps you can take to clear the air. Here are a few things you can start doing to improve your home’s air quality.

Clean the Floors
This is especially important if you have carpeting over the majority of the floors in your home. Dust tends to settle in the fibers of your carpet, and a slight disturbance like walking or shuffling across those fibers can put it right back in the air. It’s a vicious cycle, so make sure you’re vacuuming regularly!

Check Your Equipment
Carbon monoxide alarms should be tested at least once every month, and your HVAC system should be inspected at least twice every year. Calling for air conditioning services or furnace repair once in the spring and once in the fall should be enough to get you through the year, but if you notice any issues with your HVAC, you should call a licensed AC technician immediately.

Keep Plants in Your Home
Plants are nature’s best air filters. Not only will they provide some color and life to your home, they’ll help you clean the air inside as well. Plants are a wonderful addition to any indoor space, and in most cases they’re relatively low-maintenance items to keep around.

Air Out the House
Is the air in your house feeling stale and dry? Whether it’s cold or hot outside, it’s a good idea to open the windows and let fresh air flow through your home every once in a while. Do this for about 30 minutes at a time while the ceiling fans are on to ensure maximum air flow.

HVAC services are only a part of keeping the air in your home clean, but it’s still important to keep track of your air conditioning service and heating service regardless. Don’t hesitate to put these simple tips into practice and breathe easier!
