Is it time to have your roof inspected? Under normal conditions, it should be inspected at least once or twice a year. If you live in an area that experiences heavy storms and winds, however, you’ll want to have it inspected more often.

Do you currently have an asphalt shingle roof? Approximately every 4 out of every 5 homes in the United States have a roof made out of either organic or fiberglass shingles. These roofs will usually provide sufficient protection for your home when properly installed and maintained.

If you need a roof replacement, then a new asphalt shingle roof will usually last for a minimum of 12 to 15 years. In order to maintain their warranty, however, shingles shouldn’t be installed on roofs that slope less than 18 degrees. During rain storms, this slope is needed so that the water is adequately shed.

When you live in an area that has extreme storms, including hail, then you may want to consider having a metal roof installed instead. These impact-resistant roofs require minimal maintenance, and usually last 30 or more years.

Were you aware that 40% of a house’s heat can escape through the attic? If you noticed your home wasn’t as warm as usual during the last cold season, it could be due to poor attic insulation. You may also have other drafty areas where heat escapes as well. Furthermore, now that the weather is growing warmer, your cool air will also dissipate in this fashion.

If you’re tackling a variety of home repairs and maintenance requirements, you may be interested to know that homeowners will usually spend 1% to 4% on these every year. While costs do often increase as a house ages, a $200,000.00 home usually needs about $2,000.000 in repairs every year.

If you’re renovating, however, have you considered adding on a sunroom? Whether you’re planning to remain in your home for decades to come or selling in the near future, sunrooms can provide a solid return on your investment. Recent reports indicate that this addition could bring you an average return on your initial investment of 89% to 115%.

After you have your roof replaced with asphalt shingles or metal, then add on that sunroom, you may also want to focus on other updates to your home. It could be that your windows and doors aren’t seated properly, which can also allow cool air to escape. If you enjoy spending time outdoors relaxing or entertaining family and friends, you may also want to add a deck off of that sunroom along with a revitalized landscape.
